NYC tap & jazz artist

Hi! I’m Jessee.

I’m Jessee Leigh Robinson, a NYC–based performer, choreographer, and teacher. I grew up in Los Angeles training in a wide range of dance styles, where I found a deep love for and early recognition in tap dance. Since moving to New York, I’ve continued to expand my artistry, recently diving into Lindy Hop, vernacular jazz, singing, and pursuing acting through improv training with The PIT NYC. I’m an alumna of The School at Jacob’s Pillow Tap Dance Program and the Creating in Jazz Program, as well as Dance Lab New York’s Tap Dance Lab (2024–2025 cycles).

I currently work with Anthony Morigerato’s AM Dance Productions and have worked as a performer in a variety of concert and festival settings in NYC and beyond including: New York City Center (“ZAZ” with Sole Defined), 92NY (“Swing Out Loud” with Lisa LaTouche), the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, the Stompology Jazz Festival (with LaTasha Barnes), Dance Africa Dallas (with Sole Defined), Steps in Concert (with Christina Carminucci), and the Hummingbird Festival (with Leo Manzari). I’ve also been part of pre-production processes for Wonderful Town at NYCC Encores! (choreographed by Ayodele Casel), Jelly’s Last Jam at NYCC Encores! (choreographed by Dormeshia), and Anything Goes at The Muny (choreographed by Jared Grimes). As a performer, I’m especially seeking solo improvisational opportunities and collaborations with live musicians in spaces such as jazz clubs and music venues. I am currently unrepresented and seeking agency representation.

As a choreographer, I’ve presented work at Alvin Ailey, Choreographers Carnival NYC, Arts On Site, 92NY, Dixon Place, Silo Dance Festival, and The Craft. I’m particularly interested in creating tap dance work for environments that don’t traditionally include it—nightlife spaces, concert dance venues, and music settings. My choreography often explores themes of mental health, genre fusion (with a special focus on R&B and jazz), and connection—to self, to music, and to community.

I currently am a teacher at Tap Dance Central, Steps on Broadway, and Broadway Dance Center, and I’m available for private lessons in NYC and virtually (please contact me here!)
